The Parish Council Meeting scheduled for Thursday 12 December 2024 has been cancelled.
Meetings will resume as planned in January 2025.
Dear stakeholder,
RE: Introduction to Mynydd Mawr Energy Park
I am writing to with information on proposals for Mynydd Mawr Energy Park, a proposed Renewable Energy Park on land situated between the Ceiriog and Tanat valleys in north eastern Powys and southern Wrexham, adjacent to the Shropshire border and approximately 8km west of Oswestry.
The Proposed Project
The proposal includes up to 21 wind turbines with a maximum height to blade tip of 230m. Solar photovoltaic panels and battery energy storage system technology are also being considered at the Energy Park, subject to the completion of further technical studies.
If the Mynydd Mawr Energy Park is approved, the Energy Park could generate up to 147 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity from the wind turbines alone, enough to power up to 122,000 homes i
This could offset some 173,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, assisting in tackling the climate emergency and supporting Wales to achieve its target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 ii.
Public consultation
The consultation will run from Wednesday 13 November and you will have until Wednesday 18 December to provide your feedback on the proposals. We will be holding a number of consultation events to give you an opportunity to find out more information about the proposals and meet the project team.

You may know that residents in the Shropshire Council area will need to show photo ID to vote in the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election on Thursday 2 May.
This will also be the case for the next general election, for the local elections in May 2025, and for any future by-elections.
Ahead of the PCC election we’re reminding residents to make sure they are ready to vote by checking they have an accepted form of ID – and we ask that you help to get this important message out to people in your area if you can.
To help you do so, we’ve attached two social media graphics and two posters (A4 and A3 size) for you to use.
Anyone voting at a polling station will need to show photo ID before they can be given their ballot paper. It’s important that everyone understands what types of ID they can use, and how to apply for free ID if they need it.
Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport or drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass or an Oyster 60+ card. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.
Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID will be able to apply for free ID online at www.voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk/ or by completing a paper form.
The full list of accepted ID is available on the Electoral Commission’s website, along with more information about the new requirement and details of how to apply for the free ID, at electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID.
To apply for the Voter Authority Certificate, voters will need to provide a photo, full name, date of birth, the address at which they are registered to vote and their National Insurance number. The deadline to apply is 24 April.
If you have any questions please email our elections team – elections@shropshire.gov.uk.

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission England (the Commission) is asking for residents and parishes to help in drawing up a new pattern of electoral divisions in Shropshire. The Commission will be giving more information about the review and answering questions at an online briefing on Thursday 15th December at 6.30 pm. You can watch the live briefing, and ask questions using this invitation and the video will be available after the meeting.
Information is also available on the Commission’s website https://www.lgbce.org.uk/all-reviews/west-midlands/shropshire/shropshire-unitary-authority-ua
In drawing up the new divisions, the Commission aims to ensure that each councillor represents roughly the same number of electors. The review will also try to create divisions that as far as possible reflect the interests and identities of communities across Shropshire. Since the last review in 2008 the population in some of the divisions has grown more than others and there is more development taking place. Your views about the boundaries are therefore important in ensuring effective governance for Shropshire in future.
The Commission would like to hear opinions on:
• the number of divisions
• the names of divisions
• where the boundaries between divisions should lie
• the number of councillors for each division.
You can make an online submission on the Commission’s website or send your views by email to reviews@lgbce.org.uk or by post to:
Review Officer (Shropshire)

Have your say A consultation on division boundaries for Shropshire has begun
|
Today is the start of a 10-weekpublic consultation inviting proposals for new council divisions and division boundaries for Shropshire Council. Our consultation will close on 30 January 2023. After we have considered all representations made to us during this consultation, we intend to publish draft recommendations in July 2023. We will then hold a further period of consultation on our draft recommendations. Our final recommendations are expected to be published in September 2023. The new electoral arrangements will come into effect at the local elections in May 2025. If you represent a local organisation or community group in Shropshire, please pass this message on to your members or anyone who you think might be interested in the review. You can share the message by email or through social media by using the buttons at the bottom right of the page. What is an electoral review? Our electoral review will recommend new electoral arrangements for Shropshire Council. We will propose: · the total number of councillors elected to the council in the future; · the number of divisions · the number of councillors representing each division · Division boundaries; and · the names of divisions. How to get involved This is a public consultation and we welcome views from individuals and organisations across Shropshireon where they think new division boundaries should be drawn. We are minded to recommend that 74councillors should be elected to Shropshire Councilin the future. This is no change from the current number of councillors. We are now inviting proposals to help us draw up a pattern of electoral divisions to accommodate 74 councillors. In drawing up new electoral divisions, we must balance three legal criteria, namely: · to deliver electoral equality: where each councillor represents roughly the same number of electors as others across the area; · that the pattern of divisions should, as far as possible, reflect the interests and identities of local communities; · that the electoral arrangements should provide for effective and convenient local government. We will treat all submissions equally, and judge each case on its merits and against the legal criteria. If you wish to put forward a view, we would also urge you to ensure that evidence supports your submission. For example, if you wish to argue that two areas should be included in the same electoral division, make sure you tell us why they should be together, providing evidence about community facilities, ties, organisations, and amenities, rather than simply asserting that they belong together. There is more advice on our website about how you can get involved in the consultation. Our website features technical guidance that explains the process and our policies, as well as guidance on how to take part in each part of the process. We have also set up a webpage dedicated to the review of Shropshire, where you can find all the relevant information. You can also access interactive maps of the current ward boundaries across Shropshireon our specialist consultation portal. The portal also allows you to comment and upload documents directly to the site.
