Consultation on Vyrnwy Frank Connection

Shropshire and Powys

02/04/2025

Update from Green Gen Cymru

Green GEN Cymru is currently consulting on proposals for a new substation near Cefn Coch in Powys, a section of underground cable and sealing end compound, a 132 kV overhead line and a switching station to connect to the national electricity network near to Lower Frankton, Shropshire.

The new connection will also become part of a more resilient network for the region – creating capacity to support local investment and providing for a future in which the demand for electricity will increase significantly to heat homes and buildings, and to charge domestic and agricultural vehicles.

We’ve held six in-person events and three stakeholder webinars since the consultation launched on Wednesday 19 February 2025. These events have been a good way to hear responses from the local community, as well as to answer questions and provide further information on our proposals. Many people have also submitted their feedback to us to consider.

We would like to encourage everyone who has not yet submitted feedback to do so before the consultation closes on Wednesday 16 April 2025.

As an elected representative of the community, we also ask you to encourage feedback from those in your area.

We are eager for detailed feedback on the proposals. We’re keen to receive comments on the potential environmental effects of the proposals or ideas for mitigating these effects, and if they have comments on the potential benefits of the project.

All feedback we receive will be reviewed, recorded and carefully considered.

Feedback can be submitted in three different ways:
- Via our website – www.greengenvyrnwyfrankton.com
- Via our email address – info@greengenvyrnwyfrankton.com
- A hard copy submission to our freepost address: FREEPOST Green GEN Cymru V2F

It is expected that this will be the final route-wide consultation before the application is submitted for planning consent.

Following the end of the consultation, Green GEN Cymru will review its proposals in light of feedback received and ongoing assessments to see if there are ways they can improve them.

When the proposals are ready, we will apply for development consent with the Secretary of State for Energy and Net Zero via the Planning Inspectorate.

If you have any further questions, our team can be contacted by emailing info@greengenvyrnwyfrankton.com or by phoning 0800 915 3590.
